SUMMARY

This six-week ceramic sculpture course is ideal for beginners and experienced makers alike who want to explore or advance their skills in ceramic sculpture. 

It blends ceramic technique, theory, and creative practice for you to make the ceramic projects you want to make, in a relaxed and encouraging environment.

Hosting a mix of new and returning participants, we begin with a formal, guided lesson to build foundational skills and knowledge. From there, your teacher, Aoife, draws on a wide range of techniques, and tailors each lesson to support you as you create your own projects.

Over the course of the term, you'll create, and then hand-paint, 1–6 ceramic pieces using coloured underglaze. Aoife will then apply a clear glaze to each piece, and your finished works will be ready for collection within 2–4 weeks.

Introduction to Ceramic Sculpture

Join Aoife Billings for a two-hour class to learn the basics of creating small ceramic sculptures. Ideal for beginners, this session covers essential clay techniques for sculpture. This class serves as an introduction to Aoife's six-week Ceramic Sculptures series.

YOUR TEACHER

Aoife Billings (she/her) is a Narrm (Melbourne) based interdisciplinary artist with a dedicated practice of ceramics. She has been teaching art workshops for over seven years, including at Australian Centre for Contemporary Art, Shepparton Art Museum, Monash University, numerous local councils and Pink Ember Studio. Aoife co-founded Pink Ember Studio (Coburg North) in 2018, an artist-run not-for-profit which has 19 studio artists, an events and workshop space, as well as a dedicated ceramics studio.
